Big Win For West Catholic Soccer

WOW!!! What a game. The girls played so well tonight. I did not know what to expect from the Grandville team as we have never played them. After we gave up the goal in the first 3 minutes of the game I thought the flood gates would open. Boy was I wrong. 77 minutes of shut-out soccer for our defense and goalie, what a group effort. We never gave up which is what every coach wants to see. I hope we can bring this intensity to the G.R.Christian game. Great job tonight everyone……Coach Hawkins

Best Effort against Rockford ever

Our girls played a very strong game against a very tough, state ranked Rockford team. Kelli Sprenger hit a left post and just missed putting west on the board. Several strong passes and a cross into the middle and finished with a header gave Rockford the only score of the game. Paulina made save after save to keep us in the game. The girls are finally playing the kind of soccer that I knew they were capable of playing. This week we have three city league games. I hope to rest some of the girls who have logged heavy minutes this season. We are at a 9-3 record which is the best start in recent memory. Let’s work hard this week and keep things rolling……………Coach Hawkins

 Slow Start, Big Finish

We started a little slow tonight. 1st half play was dominated by our girls but we could only manage to put 2 into the back of the net. A much stronger 2nd half made me feel a little better. It seems we play to the skill level of the team we are playing. I hope that changes on wednesday. Anyway, back to our game………6 goals, not bad. Scorers were Kitty with 2, her first goals of her varsity career, Kelli, Kristin, Lauren and Amy. The girls return to league action on wednesday against Ottawa Hills at 4:30. Due to a conflict, Paulina will be at tennis so Katie Kosnik will get the nod at keeper for the varsity team.

The JV played very well and could score at will. Final score was, I think, 13-1. It was considered a scrimmage so the mercy rule was not in affect. The JV team travels to Highland Park to play G.R.Central tomorrow.

Everybody Plays

The girls came out ready to play tonight. Less than 20 minutes and the lady falcons were up 4-0. We did have some fun tonight and got to play the bench some extensive minutes. Our goal scorers tonight were…….Lauren McFall with 3, Megan Stanitzek with 2, her first 2 goals of her varsity career, Kelli, Rachel Sprenger and Sam, her first goal for west. All the girls tried to set up each other to score which was nice to see. We are back in city league action tomorrow against Union. It is also senior night, a chance to recognize our senior leaders. After tomorrow nights game we gear up for a tough game at Jenison next tuesday.  Great job tonight…………Coach Hawkins

The JV team defeated G.R.Central 3-0 tuesday night. Goals were scored by Sarah Mooney with 2 and Kalyn with the other. Nice to have a win and shut-out!!

Another fun night for the Lady Falcons

Our Lady Falcons racked up another win tonight against Union, 8-0. It was another night where the starters were the ones cheering from the bench. Katie Kosnik got the start in the goal and recorded her first varsity shut-out. Great job!! Our scorers tonight were…….Lauren, Amy and Paulina, all with 2, Paulinas were her first as a varsity player. Kristin and Anna had 1 each. Once again the players opted to set each other up for open shots. But now happy fun time is over. Our next game is against Jenison on the road. We kick off at 6:45. This will be a very tough match-up for our team. I know we are up for the challange. We have had a very succesful season so far but the real work is ahead of us. Great job this week ladies……Coach Hawkins

Another strong showing for our Lady Falcons

Last night was another strong game against a much bigger school and a deeper program. I know we gave Jenison everything they wanted. We just lost our shape for a moment and they took advantage of it. I thought our first half was probably the best half we played all year. We had some chances in both halves but could not put it away. Some questionable officiating did not help us. Jenison is a very good team, fast, good on both sides of the ball and well coached. Our girls are peaking now and we await our next monday game.

Monday May 27 we open district action at Falcon Stadium against a good Muskegon Orchard View team. I looked on-line and saw that at one point this season they were 5-2. I couldn’t find anything after that. If we beat them we will play At Muskegon Oakridge on thursday may 29 at 6:30 against Oakridge. No love loss there. I really feel that the winner of this game will win the district. But, Orchard View first then we take care of business…………..Coach Hawkins

One down, now Catholic

Finally, our re-match with Catholic Central. Next Monday is the day for some payback. We have been waiting for this day since the day they beat us. Bring your friends and let’s have a big crowd there.

Last night we had another fun night. Everybody played including the JV players I brought up for districts. Our final score was West 7 and Union 0. Our goals were scored by Amy with 3, Lauren with 1, Paulina with 1 and newcomers Shelby and Kalyn each with 1. Great job everybody. I will see both teams at 4:00 sunday afternoon………Coach Hawkins

Right Where We Want To Be!!

When we started the season, one of our team goals was to be in the LAST city finals ever. Well, here we are. The girls never gave up. When we got down 1-0 it would have been easy to just roll over but we kept fighting. Kristin with a nice goal got us going. Kelli with the free kick was amazing. It’s to the point that we look for a goal even if the ball is at mid-field for a free kick. O.T. was ours. we kept the pressure on and Amy with the goal gave us the date with destiny. Our game on wednesday will be a battle. The odds are not in our favor but I’ve never backed away from a fight and we will give Christian our best game.

Two milestones occured with the win last night. Our Lady Falcons set a new standard for wins in a season with our 14th victory. On a personal note, I notched my 50th win as a varsity coach. I hope we can keep things rolling. All season I’ve said that we were a young team who will keep improving during the season and we hope to peak during tournament time. It’s happening!! Great job ladies. A special thank-you goes to those who cheered from the bench. You kept the energy level high for the girls on the field.

The JV team played what I thought was their best game of the season. They looked like a well oiled machine. Passing was amazing. So many of the girls have improved so much. You should all be proud of the work you did this season. Summer league is coming. I want to see many of the JV players there. Details coming.

Once again, GREAT JOB EVERYBODY!!!!!           Coach Hawkins

Proud of the way we played!!

I sure am proud of the way the girls played last night. I thought we gave Christian quite a game. We were back on our heels quite a bit of the time so our counter attacks lacked enough players to really get things going. Being 2-0 I never really thought we were out of it. We shut them out in the second half which I don’t think has ever happened. We still need to take better care of the ball and things will flow much better.

Now we ramp up for the districts. Our game tuesday will be a hard fought contest. Our side of the bracket is very tough. I hope we can do well tuesday night. I hope everybody has a nice relaxing long weekend…………Coach Hawkins

Big Win Tonight

I really did not know what to expect against Muskegon Orchard View. They were fast and beat us to many loose balls. Kristin however provided us with a hugh game. Three goals was amazing. We looked real good at times and not so good at other times. I did get a chance to play everybody on the bench. We look forward to a physical, fast, hard-nosed soccer game on thursday. This will be our biggest test of the season. The girls worked hard to be here in this position at this part of the season. Let’s hope our injured players will be back with us on thursday. Blue collar West Catholic soccer has brought us here so lets keep it up. Great job everybody…………….Coach Hawkins

One More to Go!!

WOW!!! That was sure an exciting game. We got off to a hot start. The girls played so hard out there. I am so proud of them.To score so quickly took oakridge out of their game. We are playing so well but I still feel we have better soccer in us.

Muskegon Oakridge is a tough team. We kept Jessica Williams in check all night long. We really stepped up on the defense. Oakridge was 15-2-1 coming in tonight. A good team and a good game.

Let’s keep this momentum up for saturday. If we play strong, and play the blue collar west catholic soccer we can do it. A special thanks to the ladies on the bench, they really yelled and supported the team. Thanks!!…….Coach Hawkins

DISTRICT CHAMPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For the first time ever, the West Catholic Lady Falcons have won a district title. It was a very hard fought game from start to finish. Kelli and Lauren provided enough offense to do the job for us today. We are now in uncharted waters for our soccer program. Once again a big thank-you to the girls who did not get the chance to play but provided the cheering from the bench. To get to where we are right now is a total team effort. Weather you are on the field or cheering from the bench, we are a team. Great effort today…………….Coach Hawkins

Thanks For a Great Season

Our season came to an end at the hands of a good Otsego team. We all can be proud of the season that we had. Who would have thought that we could come as far as we did. Our final record stands at 17-6. That is a new standard for wins with our soccer program. We had three girls make the all-city team and 7 girls make the all-district team. Way to go ladies. Now we get ready for our end of the year banquet next tuesday. I will see everybody there. Great season……..Coach Hawkins
